#PulwamaAttack: Times of India trolled for lead story’s headline
On February 15, The Times of India published a story on the Pulwama terror attack on its front page. The headline read: “Govt blames Pak after local youth rams CRPF convoy with IED-packed SUV in worst terror hit on J&K forces.”
Following incessant trolling on social media, TOI changed its headline to “Govt blames Pakistan after worst-ever J&K terror strike”.
The paper’s editors also issued a note in this regard. The note read: “The headline clearly said it was a terror strike. There is nevertheless a feeling that it conveyed an impression of Pakistan being ‘unfairly’ blamed. While fully appreciating these sentiments, we wish to point out that our entire coverage was unambiguous in stating that the terrorist was a member of Pakistan-based and controlled Jaish-e-Mohammad.”
The editors also reiterated that the paper condemns terror and grieves for the families of those martyred in the Pulwama attack on February 14.
