TRP scam: Republic moves Bombay High Court seeking stay on investigation into the channel
A day after the Supreme Court quashed Republic TV’s petition to protect all employees of Republic TV and Republic Bharat from coercive action by the Mumbai police, the network moved the Bombay High Court on Tuesday with the same pleas.
Live Law tweeted that Republic sought “a stay on further investigation in the TRP scam case with respect to it and its employees” as well as a “ direction to the Mumbai Police to not take any coercive action [against or harass] employees, agents, investors of Republic TV and Republic Bharat”.
The plea also included a direction from the court to transfer the investigation to the CBI. When the same petition was brought before the Supreme Court on Monday, the bench headed by Justice DY Chandrachud called the plea “ambitious”. The apex court asked for withdrawal of the petition but said the petitioner was at liberty to pursue alternative remedies.
Last week, a sessions court granted bail to Ghanshyam Singh, a Republic employee, who had been arrested in connection with the scam last month.
