TRP scam: Republic CEO Vikas Khanchandani gets bail
Vikas Khanchandani, the chief executive officer of the Republic Media Network, got bail today, LiveLaw reported. A sessions court in Mumbai heard his bail petition.
Khanchandani was arrested on Sunday in connection with the TRP scam. Yesterday, he was produced before a magistrate's court, the Times of India reported, and sent to judicial custody for 14 days. His lawyer noted that his name did not figure in either the FIR or the chargesheet.
The Mumbai police has said that Republic is involved in a scam to manipulate ratings. TRPs are measured through “barometers” installed in select houses; the police alleged that Republic, among other channels, paid money to homeowners in whose houses barometers were installed, in order to “manipulate” the ratings.
Earlier this month, Republic's chief operating officer Priya Mukherjee got anticipatory bail in the same case. On December 5, the sessions court had granted bail to Republic TV's assistant vice president, Ghanshyam Singh, who was arrested in the same case on November 10.
