TRP scam: Mumbai court grants anticipatory bail to three Republic employees

Three employees of Republic TV who are accused in the television rating points, or TRP, scam were granted anticipatory bail by a Mumbai court today. According to Livelaw, the employees - chief financial officer Siva Subramaniam, Shivendra Mundherkar and Ranjit Walter - were recently cited as accused in the TRP scam chargesheet along with Republic chief Arnab Goswami.

The three employees had filed for anticipatory bail last year. They have been charged under penal sections related to cheating, conspiracy, forgery, criminal breach of trust, and destruction of evidence among others.

The scam in question was brought up by the Mumbai police last year, which alleged that a few media houses bribed some families in whose homes meters to measure television ratings had been installed to tune into a particular channel. Among the channels named was Republic TV.
