Did Zee News miss the NBDSA deadline to take down three videos?

On November 19, the News Broadcasting and Digital Standards Authority issued two orders directing news channel Zee News to remove links of four of its videos from all platforms by November 26.

A day after the deadline, Newslaundry found that three of the videos are still live on the Zee News YouTube channel (see here, here and here). One of the four videos had been taken down in February this year.

The first order was related to the channel’s coverage of the farmer protests in January this year. The two videos referred to were from the show Taal Thok Ke which aired on January 19 and 20.

The second order was about the removal of a Zee News broadcast on a group of retired civil servants, called the Constitutional Conduct Group, who had written an open letter urging companies to stop advertising on news channels that spread hate.

Two of the complaints were filed in January and the third in November by LGBTQ activist Indrajeet Ghorpade.

In both orders, the NBDSA said that Zee News had violated the Fundamental Principles of the Code of Ethics & Broadcasting Standards. However, no other penalties were levied. There was also no mention of a penalty by the NBDSA for non-compliance with the orders issued.
