Noida police grants security to Aditya Raj Kaul after ‘ISIS threats’

Noida police has granted security to Network18 Group Contributing Editor Aditya Raj Kaul after he received threats via what he called emails from ISIS Kashmir. An FIR has also been registered against unidentified persons.

According to a report in the Hindustan Times, Kaul claimed he received five threats, three of which came from isiskashmir@gmail.com on November 23 and two from isiskashmir@yahoo.com on November 28. The journalist had filed a complaint at the Surajpur police station.

Noida Central additional DCP Elamaran G said the cyber cell was investigating the matter and that they had “scaled up security and patrolling outside the journalist’s house”. Kaul said that he has informed the Delhi police cyber cell as well.

Speaking to the Hindustan Times, KPS Malhotra, DCP (intelligence fusion and strategic operations) said, “We received a complaint and carried out the technical investigation, which traced the IP addresses of the concerned email IDs to Karachi. Further technical examination is being carried out by our teams to get some more breakthroughs.”

In the FIR, Kaul has said, “Most of my reportage revolves around Kashmir and Pakistan-based terrorist organisations and their activities against Indian security forces and common people. I had widely reported on the recent killing of Hindu minority community in Kashmir and also non-local street vendors from Bihar and UP.”

According to the report, one of the emails sent to Kaul stated, “We accept the responsibility for the Pathankot blast. We will also target politicians and journalists in the upcoming elections in Kashmir.”

While speaking to Hindustan Times, Kaul said, “I have been vocal about these issues on social media, due to which the suspects sent me these threat emails. They do not want me to write. These are the same kind of threat messages that BJP MP Gautam Gambhir recently received. The same email IDs have been used in both the cases.”
