For children impacted by Delhi riots, a school to help them with trauma

When the Delhi riots broke out in February 2020, numerous children bore witness to the violence unfolding in their neighbourhoods. Children living in riot-affected areas watched their homes, shops and streets being burned and vandalised; others saw their family members being killed by mobs.

After the riots, many of these children were unable to go back to school due to financial constraints, the pandemic, and the deepening communal divides. To help these children rebuild their lives, Aasif Mujtaba of the Miles2Smile Foundation in Ghaziabad’s Loni started the Sunrise Public School in November 2020.

Newslaundry visited the school to see how these children are on a slow journey to pick up the pieces of their lives. Watch.
