‘If law followed, Singh would’ve been in jail’: What protesters said on one month of wrestlers’ sit-in

The wrestlers’ protest to seek action against WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh over sexual harassment allegations has entered its second month with a candle march in Delhi.

On Tuesday, thousands of people turned up for the march from Jantar Mantar to India Gate, to express solidarity with women wrestlers. It was led by wrestlers Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia, who resolved to “continue their fight for justice” and spoke of organising a women’s panchayat in front of the new parliament building on the day of its inauguration on May 28.

Politician Chandrashekhar Azad and former Jammu and Kashmir governor Satyapal Malik were also present at India Gate in support of the protesters. Speaking to Newslaundry, Azad pointed out that the FIR was registered “only after the Supreme Court’s orders”. He said the case involves a minor and BJP MP Singh would have been in jail “had the law been followed”.
