‘Big changes possible only through politics’: PIL activist turns CPM candidate

Some know him as a Delhi High Court advocate. Some as a crusader for the public good with PILs on a range of issues – from admission irregularities to basic amenities in schools and the need for a national policy on rare diseases. But Ashok Agarwal is now fighting another battle.

Agarwal is one of the two candidates fielded by the CPI(M) across Delhi. Campaigning for votes in northeast Delhi’s Karawal Nagar, he feels legal battles have a limit. “Work can get done in the courts but there is a limit to it. Big changes are possible only through politics.”

Questioning the AAP government’s track record, Agarwal says, “It is a good thing that they raised the issue of education, but there’s only been propaganda on this issue. Real development is not visible anywhere.” 

In a conversation with Newslaundry, he speaks about what he thinks are the issues that matter in this election.
