Adani moves to 100 percent ownership of IANS
AMG Media Networks Ltd (AMNL), the media arm of Adani Enterprises – the flagship entity of the Adani Group – has taken full control of the Delhi-based news agency, Indo-Asian News Service (IANS), by buying the remaining 24 percent stake for an undisclosed amount.
According to a recent filing, Adani Enterprises Ltd. said, “AMNL has now executed a Share Purchase Agreement on January 21, 2026, to acquire the remaining stake in IANS. Upon completion of the proposed transaction, IANS shall become a wholly-owned step-down subsidiary of the company.”
In December 2023, billionaire Gautam Adani's flagship company acquired a 50.50 percent majority stake in the Delhi-headquartered news agency known for its Hindi and English news wire services. The following month, AMNL increased its stake in IANS to 76 percent by subscribing to new shares worth Rs 5 crore.
By taking over IANS, the Adani Group has further entrenched its presence in Indian media, following earlier purchases of channels like NDTV and other media entities.
In 2022, the Adani Group expanded into the media industry, marking a shift from its long-standing focus on heavy infrastructure, energy, and ports. This expansion was spearheaded by the formation of AMNL, a subsidiary set up in April 2022 to oversee the group's media acquisitions.
Soon after its formation, AMNL bought a stake in Quintillion Business Media Ltd, which operates BQ Prime, a business and financial news digital platform. In December 2022, it conducted a hostile takeover of NDTV, which Newslaundry reported on at length.
These acquisitions, ranging from BQ Prime to NDTV and IANS, highlight the group’s efforts to establish a multi-platform media presence.
