TV Newsance 335 | How TV news went full tabahi mode on the Iran-Israel-US war

This week began with a wave of devastating news as the escalating conflict involving Israel, the US, and Iran flooded social media with images of bloodshed. Most tragic was the report of a US airstrike on a girls' school  in Iran that killed 165 students and staff. Predictably, the Western press followed a historical pattern: offering vague, passive headlines regarding Israeli aggression while using pointedly specific language when reporting on Iran.

Closer to home, Indian news channels indulged in their usual theatrics. With endless sirens, shouting matches, and anchors digitally superimposed into explosive war zones, the ‘immersive experience’ felt more like a circus than journalism – precisely what no one needs right now. This sensationalism was further muddied by a generous sprinkling of misinformation and, in a bizarre turn of events, segments blaming the entire geopolitical crisis on Iran’s horoscope.
