Aaj Ka AQI
March 18, 2026: GRAP-1 lifted, yet ‘poor’ air persists in South Delhi
For today’s episode of Aaj Ka AQI, Newslaundry visited Begumpur in South Delhi. While the nearest DPCC station at Sri Aurobindo Marg pegged the AQI at 162 (moderate), our portable monitor recorded a significantly higher 242 (poor).
This discrepancy comes as the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) revoked its GRAP-1 restrictions on March 16, citing improving air quality. An official told PTI that forecasts indicate the AQI is “likely to remain in the moderate category” in the coming days. However, our on-ground findings show that for residents in areas like Begumpur, the air remains firmly in the ‘poor’ category.
