• Ganesh Bhagwat

Actually you missed out on John Maynard Keynes, who was gay for much of his youth.

  • Stupid Common Man

    Nailed it !!!!!!
I think the Nude Yoga trainer Vivek Mishra who was the participant of BigBoss 7 was gay……..Since you couldn’t find any in the field of Yoga……

    • dk

katju is right when he said 90% people are fool ordinary man is a fool who can watch idiot shows like Bigboss 7 and get swayed away by IDIOT BOX NEWS CHANNELS to vote for Commie party

  • Srivastava

Ok.. By this logic king Ashoka, king Babur, king Akbar etc, etc killed tens of thousands… So killing is cool??? You are a kind of watchdog for news reporting, don’t question views of ppl, question reporting standards, and biased reporting…

    • Tanmay Singal

      By *this* logic?

What logic? Ramdev asks what’s the contribution of homosexuals to science and economics… And here is the answer.

  • Rahul

    Abhinandan!

Going by that logic I’ll present 100+ names in each of their fields who aren’t gay. Which will nullify the contribution of these guys, if thats what u want.

Whats the point of dragging Baba Ramdev in ur queer marketing? Why didn’t u named the Church & AIMPLB who were petitioners in the case unlike Ramdev.

Its ur same old Anti-Hindu BS propaganda 4 which u got another excuse.

Any person who contributes positively to society must be appreciated without discrimination, matter closed.

I would applaud u if u have the guts 2 present the list of Indian LGBT politicians, film stars & journalists. If not then cut its crAAP.

PS: We know some queer politicians including in AAP :D

    • DuracellBunny

Slamming Baba Ramdev for his comment has nothing to do with anti-Hindu BS. In fact, it’s people like Ramdev who because of their occasional ignorance and the staunch views make it difficult to justify our rich heritage and culture.
My advice to any one with extreme views on this issue – If you dislike gay sex, then don’t do it ! Simple, really.

      • Gu’an

“My advice to any one with extreme views on this issue”

If u dislike terrorism then don’t do it but experience it. :D

        • irregularexpression

Gay Sex and Terrorism are analogous? Wow!

          • Rahul

Some guy made Hinduism & Gay sex analogous then why not :D

On serious note, my reply is apt as per his comment.

          • DuracellBunny

Well, I could be a Proud Hindu, and still think that Ramdev’s comment was moronic and distasteful. For me, Hinduism is not defined by one baba’s views – Ramdev or otherwise.
Nowhere in the comment did I say that Hinduism and Gay sex are analogous, it’s your underdeveloped pea sized intellect that makes you believe so. My perspective on terrorists is that they should be shot in the face after humiliating them publicly. My perspective on dumb-ass comments from babas is that since they’re in the public sphere, they should either shut up, or educate themselves since they do more damage to the perception of Hinduism than good with such comments. In this specific case, media is just the messenger, don’t shoot it.

      • abhi

he can have his view…i dont understand people getting angry on him..anyway its supreme court who had pronuced it baba ramdev hasnt.and he talk lot of sense like on issue black money and corruption but that s another thing it doesnt hurt your sentiment..

    • Dayal

I didn’t get how come a post on achievements of some greats(that includes s few Indians as well) with a reference to their sexuality would be an Anti HINDU propaganda?????

And hey Babaji made those comments and its a comment on that. They didn’t title – “HINDU BABAJI KI JAI” they were secular by not mentioning any religion at all. Matter never opened!

But I agree NL or anyone for that matter will find it very difficult to present any good LGBT “politician”. Not that they aren’t GAY but they are not WORTH to be mentioned!

      • Gu’an

Firstly Since he has bashed Baba Ramdev just expressed his opinion like million others instead of expressing against Islamic clerics & Church who were actually litigants.

U don’t need 2 name everything context when becomes self-evident

When Ramdev has asked question in India’s context then why he didn’t provided Indian names except Ghosh (Seth isn’t Indian citizen) diluting his own argument that LGBT haven’t contributed in India & hence can be ignored.

        • Kaan_raja

SETH isn’t Indian citizen so can’t be considered Indian! and I wonder why we name Kalpana chawala as first INDIAN woman in space (or for that matter of fact took pride in Sunita William’s expedition). because technically Kalpana an AMERICAN of Indian Ancestary!

+ If you read Ramdev’s comment (just read the first portion of the article) – He asked contribution of LGBT to “WORLD”? anyways, his view are his. so who am i to say anything?

    • T. Krishna

Just a small information. When I was in Ramdev’s ashram, for about six years, this was a hushed rumour that he and his friend have homosexual relationship. At times they also slept in the same room.

      • Rahul

Just a small information. I am an AAP supporter & our top leaders sleep in the same room many times too. I have heard that Kejriwal-Sisodia are couple :D

        • T. Krishna

Hope you are not huddled with them

    • ramdev

why all the suppressed rage ? I know you have the illness, i can cure you. Om hom phob namah, let it go.. take a deep breath and release. You are cured bachcha, now continue fighting for my cause.

  • non_un_religious_guy

Why don’t the guy stick to his thing which is to teach yoga and doesn’t get involved into things he doesn’t have capability or intellect to debate on.

  • Dayal

BABJI leave it …waise bhi sab MOH MAYA hai!!!!!
-perhaps you got in the moh of maya!!!!

Since when sexuality started contributing to one’s work or define one’s talent/skill or any other attribute.
If its true then being a man helps doing what — RAPE? or ABUSE? or illogical domination on others? – I don’t think so. Men have values and character and posses marvelous courage determination & skills to achieve something in life. And it goes equally for Women. And equally for homosexuals.

So yes it doesn’t contribute anything? where it = “being a homosexual or heterosexual” !!!
And you talk about nature, well then perhaps neither you(babaji) or I can dictate nature, and thinking liking and all that – no one teaches anyone at homes or schools, these comes or happens, I think, Naturally in ones brain.

But most importantly has your patanjali business gone down? or no one come to for yoga?? Where were you when rapes occured on roads? why you didn’t join AAP against corruption? out of sudden you came with your theory on art370?

+ After Justice Sighvi’s statement, it now the house to discuss the act not the high court to overstep their authorities to change law decided in 1880s or something! so, babaji join a party – BJP perhaps suits you best! and then present your theory in Loksabha!

    • dk

MoronRatna Dayal babu he was der with the protesters after dec 16 inicdent.

your gutless KAJRIWAL didnt want to be associated with BRD so dont ask “why u werent der with AAP NAXAL party”.

without the support of Anna,BRD,Govindacharya JLP movement possible nahi hota…..KAJRIWAL ko koi kutta bhi nahi puchta.

      • tejas

Also this AAP volunteers wer free loading BRD camp that was setup to provide help to Uttarakhand flood victims at dat time dey didnt complain he is thug /communal etc.

      • Dayal

Sure! He was there. My bad. Sorry to hurt your feelings!

But then why don’t he continue his battle against corruption! as Anna has resumed it? I mean if he can have a great impact then why doesn’t he become active?

Kejriwal at least took some effort to get in the dirty politics and jhaadoo the gandagi. which worked !! people in Delhi chose 28 different AAP members most of them were not even known to many. But they won had the impact on BJP as well despite Modi wave all around. We need good representation.

with 28 seats they cant form govt. But why BJP shy away from forming govt. are they afraid of Kejriwal’s JHADU????

Anyways, I dont wish to discuss any politics here and I am not any suppporter or something but “haan is hammam me ye(all politicians) sab nange hain” . Koi doodh ka dhula nahi. But we definitely want change. Harvardhan saheb is good and able to lead must form government and when BJP claims to give better governance they should not get away with the opportunity to prove themselves. Just on the lighter note : Aaakhir 5 saal se dilli aana tha aur ab lakhsmi tilak laga rahi hai to muh dhone ki baat!

But whatever Ramdev said about LGTB was not good! He has no business their! I mean he is good man! and I trust him he do not hate them(like hitler did with jews)! so why this?

        • naru

this is to make a point:-

how can BJP form a govt if there is absolutely no one to support them unlike AAP party which has support from cong & others.

      • Dayal

        Also, perhaps u didn’t notice. Its 377 & I mentioned 370 – a complete disaster from my side ! I apologize.

  • Shrikant Reviteer Heerekar

these guys at Newslaundry will piss in their pants and skirts even at the thought of writing anything against the Mullahs for their swords would be out to kill them the very next day. Once again, this newslaundry is slowly turning out to be a bunch of leftists group out to malign anything remotely close to Indian culture of Yoga, Dharma, Temples, Puja etc etc. I won’t be surprised in the least if tomorrow it gets revealed that their funding comes from some Church. Many people must have come across it’s selective bias against Modi in all it’s episodes. How can this channel claim to be a watchdog and non-partisan when it’s no different from it’s siblings like NDTV CNN-IBN etc. It’s just the same old wine in a new bottle.

If you want an accurate analysis of news reporting, ur search will end with http://www.mediacrooks.com
    that’s called courageous real watchmanship.

    • abhi

tune toh meri muu ki baath chein li…

      • ramdev

muu se muu tak… no bachchas, come to my ashram i will cure you.

    • Vineet

There are lacs of people against homosexuality and have own reasons. This is where we lose the focus, Instead of criticizing what NL’s writing, illogical statements by Baba Ramdev could be much ridiculed. Its none of my business if a third person wants to have a partner of same sex. Neither is it Baba Ramdev’s business. It’ll be in his benefit if he concentrates on teaching Yoga.

No organization is perfect, neither is NL. They are just getting better at hiring good writers. I can’t say I agree with all their views, because it eventually is a writer’s opinion that is being written and it can vary.

    • Neha Salkar

You definitely have a very fertile imagination, not to mention very vindictive and myopic. So just because they made a point against Ramdev you take a potshot at everything including their ideology, affiliations and finances? I am possibly one of the most avid readers and fans of mediacrooks, and hardly a regular at news laundry. And i find nothing wrong with this. The MSM is giving undue coverage to Ramdev’s statements and NL just countered it.
“writing anything against the Mullahs for their swords would be out to kill them the very next day.”- Why don’t you suggest a few names which are receiving as much coverage as Ramdev? Your whole comment reeks of prejudice, i think you need a few lessons in Dharma yourself.

      • tan

the undue coverage was exactly to malign his viewpoint i suggest u read the blog mediacrooks and then comment………der are many other clergies who gave the statement why havent they rebutted them.

and NL thank you for googled info i didnt know this people wer gay, morons. please do some creative work instead of this nonsense i am sure this creative work must be from biases of BRD which MADHU JI harbours.

none of the above example have indian or atleast asian name in it.

        • Neha Salkar

Many clergies who? Give me names which have popped up in the last two days. Also compare their mentions to the number of articles and pieces about Ramdev. Baseless rhetoric…

          • tan

Point is:– BRD is the easy target, NL has bought its std to d msm level by not producing little or no good content.I HOPE U WILL READ D WHOLE REPLY

Here is one while not d same but he was the petitioner:-

“The SC having overturned the Delhi HC order on gay sex has been done to keep our culture intact. This has been done to respect all religions,” said Zafaryab Jilani, member of All India Muslim Personal Board, one of the petitioners in the Supreme Court.

            Here are d other petitioner:-

All India Muslim Personal Law Board, Utkal Christian Council and Apostolic Churches Alliance too have challenged the judgment. The Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Right, Tamil Nadu Muslim Munn Kazhgam, SD Pritinidhi Sabha, Joint Action Council, Raza Academy, astrologer Suresh Kumar Kaushal, yoga guru Ramdev’s disciple SK Tijarawala, Ram Murti, Bhim Singh, B Krishna Bhat had also opposed the verdict.

Baseless rhetoric is wat is done on IDIOT BOX NEWS channels by d likes of barkha dalal, justice arnab and rajdeep

“Also compare their mentions to the number of articles and pieces about Ramdev”<——– this cant be done bcos of him being easy target his statement was reported widely.

I wish u read Mediacrooks atleast a little to know the state of media today, then only i think u will be able to understand wat we are saying.

also they havent reported some gurus like SriSri who has supported decriminalizing it(i am sure der wuld be many but media will not report/ask dem just for d sake of trps)

P.s.:- my conscience tells me dat it shuld be decrimanlized ,but den many imp things such as fighting corruption improving eco, improving HDI etc etc are given enuf attention in this mindless rhetoric of everyday.PEACE.

    • XXmash

Agree with you. Newslaundry (NL) is supposed to be a watchdog on media houses. They failed to expose the media’s intentions behind selectively covering Ramdev’s opinion without going behind the petitioners (mostly minority religious leaders) opinion or Sri Sri’s opinion. NL is actually joining the main stream media. A big fail for NL. They looked lot more promising in the beginning.

    • Asty123

Skirts! These NL people wear skirts! Bleddy western culturalists. How dare they wear skirts and say anything that can be associated or dissociated with Indian culture. Definitely nothing harms Indian Culture more than anything related to sex (Kamasutra is a rumour spread by these bleddy western culturalists!)

Ofcourse Yoga is Indian Culture and curing HIV by Yoga is also Indian culture. Modi is Indian culture and being an idiot and including Modi in any discussion which is not even remotely related to him has to be Indian Culture. Heck, even MediaCrooks is Indian culture.

Standing up for personal rights of fellow people? That must be so western culture! WTF, that most definitely IS western culture.

You sir are epitome of Indian Culture (as defined by you!)

    • salesman

      My friend, you need Mentos.

  • irregularexpression

Ramdev is an idiot, and should stick to teaching Yoga instead of commenting on things he doesn’t understand! On one hand, he welcomes the SC judgement which criminalizes homosexuality, and on the other hand he states that it is a disease/condition which can be “cured” in his Ashram.. What a hypocrite! If he thinks it is a disease, then he should, in fact, oppose the SC judgement — how can a disease be considered a crime? A total moron!

On a related note, why is NL (just like most of the media) selectively targeting Hindu Godmen? Muslim and Christian leaders are equally regressive, and more fanatic in their beliefs. Why is the media so afraid to call the BS of Muslims/Christians? Hinduism on the other hand has nothing against homosexuals!

    • Irregularexpressionkimaaki

But your daddy Narendra Modi is ready to lick Ramdev’s ass…and your grand daddy Subramaniam Swamy just said it is a disease…all you bigots.

      • Tanmay Singal

        There’s Ram Jethmalani as well

        http://www.indianexpress.com/news/who-s-afraid-of-homosexuality-/492537/

He was a member of the BJP but I dunno what happened later.

I personally know a guy who did his law internship with Arun Jaitley. He said that Jaitley’s also not opposed to the Delhi High Court verdict… even though Jaitley may not say it out loud.

I don’t think you can whitewash any party on anything… well except maybe Muslims political parties.

Also consider how Anbumani Ramadoss was all for decriminalizing it… YET has what seems very retrogressive stance on Vanniyar-Dalit inter-caste marriages in Tamil Nadu. So it’s not as if being pro-decriminalization implies much on other stances. There maybe correlations… but I”m not even sure how strong these correlations are.

        • irregularexpression

You are trying to talk sense to an abusive bigot.. All the best!

        • Rahul

Hindu babalog weren’t litigants. While Christians can be shut up by showing Pope’s comment on strong gay lobby in church.

What you can do abt the religion of peace who will make pieces of LGBT? Even in case of that prof. he worked in AMU.

    • Sarab

aha? So calling it a disorder and prohibiting/persecuting is being “equally aggressive”? By newslaundry standards I can understand that can be an equation though. As for Ramdev, he at least gave you a solution for what he calls a problem – I don’t see how the above nonsense of Madhu Trehan actually proves his point, something that she can’t see herself.

      • irregularexpression

Huh? Where did you see me say anything about “equally aggressive” ?

    • AR

I do not expect much to change in public life and discourse, but till then..

Here is the standard modus operandi [this has been discussed at length by Elst and hinted at by Shourie (interviewed by Madhu-ji of NL; kudos for that].

      Dos:

      1. Raise an issue

      2. Raise an issue with even more force

      3. People will react

      4. Out of these ‘reactionaries’, select the one you know is not intellectually capable of standing with you (although maybe an otherwise nice person)

      5. This person should also be a non-expert of the subject matter at discussion; should not be so well versed in the art of public debate

      6. He should be well known in public

      7. Present his views as the views of the masses and society in general; hell, even take it on international forums and bash him left, right and centre (poor chat wouldn’t even know how all this works in the background).

      8. Archive the whole thing and this man/woman so that he can be referred back to in future whenever something similar comes up, and use it to bash up the community, their spokesmen in general.

      Don’ts:

      1. Do not EVER give space to reasonable and (possibly more) learned voices from the same spectrum as above.

      2. Do not EVER interview Rajiv Malhotra, Prof. Bharat Gupt, Prof. RN Iyengar or anyone of such caliber (for they’re not associated with the usual saffron lot, bring independent, well researched and provocative point of views with solid hard data to back it)

      3. Do not EVER even mention them as a footnote. Strangle them by maintaining a snooty silence so that public does not even come to know about them or their work’s existence (Sita Ram Goel)

      4. When countered actually on the basis of hard empirical evidences, cry conspiracy, call names, make extreme statements in extreme language (standard Marxist ‘swearology’).

      5. Never ever bring about facts of any scientific findings from the other side in public view. (What ground penetrating radar report at Ayodhya site?? There is nothing below the site; even if it was, it is just some pillars below the site. You see the ancestors of Hindus were just a bunch of idiots who liked to place random pillars here and there in the ground without any plan to build any structures over them! [Elst in 'Ayodhya: The case against temple'])

      6. Do not refer to any of the serious non-BJP, non-RSS historians scholar, public intellectuals/thinkers, if their findings seem to be supporting the Hindus.

      7. Ignore the vernacular writings, narratives, traditions COMPLETELY.

Intellectual discourse can only happen in English language. What is this Hindi, Bangla, Kannada, Tamizh non-sense??)

      8. If still pressed to present the other side, select the person who knows the matter but is unable to express him properly in English.

      9. Never answer the questions raised with real data. Revert to #4, each and every time you’re asked these questions.

      10. Do not give space to any serious writings, geo-strategic thinking, long term solutions to problems. Why who cares for this nationalism non-sense? This is a post-modern world free of boundaries! Though it’s a different matter that the nations whose universities churn such lofty ideas themselves remain strongly nationalist so much so that the put an entire community as ‘high risk’ when they see their towers falling down.

[I am not accusing Newslaundry of doing this but those who understand, know very well who I am talking about]

    • AR

Since my comment is still not posted, I am going to assume it is under moderation due to it’s unusually large length. I am now dividing it into two parts and posting part 1 first. Dear NL, hope you’ll let this through.

I do not expect much to change in public life and discourse, but till then..

Here is the standard modus operandi [this has been discussed at length by Elst and hinted at by Shourie (interviewed by Madhu-ji) kudos for that].

PS: 9. Generously refer to each other works and call them ‘authorities’ freely. If possible, also get them involved in some NGO/activism and try to get one or the other award for him. This will help establish him firmly. Once this is done, call him up on every other studio for interview.

      10. Master the art of polemic – this is the key; 9-10pm prime time can’t survive without this.

      11. And thus, guide the plebeian masses in believing what you want them to believe. Poor fellows may be struggling for their 2 square meals, office, kids and whatnot and they don’t have the time to check all this. Thus dictate and steer the discourse in the direction you’re convinced of to be the only correct and true ideal.

    • Veeru

It’s SC that’s considering it a crime as per our law. And Baba Ramdev terms it’s a curable disease, you better go visit him if you can’t stand that. You will be surprised, he can cure bigots like you with meditation alone and he is an authority in Ayurveda & Yoga. The communist bigots at news laundry can’t find any fault with the other religious heads who filed the petition, but since Baba Ramdev is famous they can get few clicks by rebutting him and criticizing him, that’s all that matters in the end.

      • irregularexpression

SC is not “considering” it a crime — SC is merely refusing to strike down the law saying it is the parliament’s job. SC has also given guidelines that it must not be enforced if there is no complainant — in short it is a victimless crime, and hardly enforceable. If he is an authority on Ayurveda and Yoga, he should stick to them and not speak on things he doesn’t understand!

I also criticize the media’s hypocrisy for not going after the Muslim and Christian leaders because their views are equally retarded. It seems all religious leaders are united in their dumbassery!

        • Veeru

If SC has refused to strike down the law that means it remains a crime in the eyes of law. Baba Ramdev is perfectly within his limits when he is commenting on gays as he is saying it’s a curable disease,

The petition is primarily driven by catholic christian religious leaders, who says “homosexuals will burn in hell”. But the missionary owned media wouldn’t utter a word about them, still it goes berserk when our babalog comment on those things.

          • irregularexpression

Exactly, which is why it is an outdated and idiotic law! But the SC (according to the SC) does not have the authority to strike it down.

Ramdev may say he can make pigs fly — he is still perfectly within his limits, but that doesn’t make him any less a moron! And people who call out his dumbassery are perfectly within their limits calling him a dumbass!

Catholic priests are bigger retards than Hindu leaders, there is no doubt — they think the earth is 6000 years old and don’t accept the fact of evolution. Let us not even talk about Islam — it is a terrorist cult that preaches slaughter of non-Muslims.

And I am well aware that our media thinks it is fair game to target Hindu beliefs, but chickens out when it comes to questioning Christian or Islamic beliefs — that still doesn’t mean I will defend the moronic behavior of Hindu leaders. Hinduism is different, it is evolved, malleable and open to harsh criticism, pluralistic and tolerant. It defines us, and I don’t want that to change.

There am I fair in my criticism of all religions? And yes, Ramdev still remains a moron!

        Are you a human being?

    • One Nation

Not to be an a$$, but homosexuality was the only disease that was removed from the DSM codes in America because of political reasons.

The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual, also known as the DSM, is the official list of mental disorders that all mental health professionals refer to when diagnosing patients.

The first version, released in 1952, listed homosexuality as a sociopath personality disturbance. In 1968, the second version (DSM II) reclassified homosexuality as a sexual deviancy. Soon afterward, gay protestors began picketing at the APA’s annual conventions, demanding that homosexuality be removed from the list completely. In 1973, after intensive debate and numerous disturbances by gay activists, the APA decided to remove homosexuality from it’s next manual (DSM IV) completely.

What followed was a swarm of outrage from psychiatrists within the APA who disagreed with the decision and demanded that the issue be reconsidered. In 1974, a referendum was called and approximately 40 percent of the APA’s membership voted to put homosexuality back into the DSM IV. Since a majority was not achieved to reverse the decision, homosexuality remains omitted from the APA’s Diagnostic and Statistical manual.

Many in the scientific community have criticized the APA’s decision to remove homosexuality from the DSM IV, claiming it’s motives were more political than scientific.

“In a recent survey conducted among campus residents on the perceptions about the LGBT community, around 8% of the 550-odd respondents identified themselves as belonging to the LGBT population.”

I suppose it’s okay if most of these people contribute just as much as their non-LGBT peers. Also it’s probably okay if most queer people remain quiet about their queerness while contributing… and that it’s ALSO okay if some of them are visibly open about it.

And about other contributors let me mention Late Prof. Ramchandra Siras.

I was half expecting this from leftist chamchas at newslaundry and I must say you didn’t disappoint. The question is about sanity, even animals don’t have this gay thing. As a society we are completely different from west, and we can’t aspire to ape west in every aspect. If some countries in west made certain things legal, doesn’t mean India needs to follow them. There are certain values we live up to as a society and that needs to be recognized. There is no need to make specific laws about them just like you don’t make rules for eunuchs. Legislation needs to recognize where it needs to stop, the west has already screwed itself by over legislating. The main problem, they never knew about a concept called Dharma. Norway is a classic case where kids are treated as national property, the main problem is live-in relationships and now 60% of the kids doesn’t know who their father is or who their mother is. Do we want to put ourselves in that kind of position? The west makes laws based on prevailing conditions in their societies, doesn’t necessarily mean we need to adopt all those laws here.

    • Varun

Seeing this article and tge general coverage one cannot be blamed to think that Baba Ramdev was the sole litigant against the HC verdict. They say homosexuality is common and then give the figure that about 1500 species are homosexual in the animal kingdom. But there are lakhs of species in the animal kingdom and that brings the probablity of occurence at less than 1%. Moreever when someone has some medical problem due to faulty gene we call it genetic disorder, same with homosexuals. Man/woman is a social animal and when someone lives in a society they need to accept cetain acceptable norms, under the name of individual freedom shameless things are being introduced into our country.

      • Guest

I’m not sure if you know that there are many “animal” species that exhibit homosexuality (Refer: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homosexual_behavior_in_animals. If you doubt the authenticity of a Wikipedia article, you can refer to several papers published in peer-reviewed journals and scientific conferences).

Of course, there is no need to give any body special rights, but the issue is about giving basic rights to all citizens (read: humans). And this is not a disease (or a “genetic disorder”) or even a choice we are talking about, this is millions of years of evolution. Science is not based on opinions, or anyone’s personal beliefs but facts and observations.

Also, I don’t think that the article insinuated anywhere about any particular religion. It was just providing facts about the comment made by a person who also happens to be a prominent public figure.

You seem to be lamenting about introduction of this “new thing” in our country. I hope you are aware of the Khajuraho sculptures, Kamasutra that celebrated homosexuality. I think all of this is a part of our culture too, unless one wants to be selective based on one’s convenience. The law under controversy was introduced by the British in the 19th century. And these are just two examples of the top off my head, a little bit of research can give you many examples from our history.

        • Veeru

Could you quote the kamasutra chapter which talks about gay sex? Kamasutra is commonly misunderstood by many western folks, yes it talks about various poses of sex, but if you ever happen to read, you will be surprised to know it talks a lot more about understand the mentality of your spouse/partner. It’s the pervert mentality of westerners that glorified the sexual poses and left the rest to dust. The western mentality is that bodily pleasures are ultimate, they will do anything for it. But here in our society, we have defined “moksha” as the ultimate pleasure and we have by definition made bodily pleasures, earthly wants as maya. This is the reason why we never had the gay problem in our society. Are you aware that it all started from a place called Sodom and that’s why it’s called sodomy? Contrary to perverted interpretation of Khajuraho, there is nothing like that in there to suggest, I recommend you to confirm this by personally visiting the place. Again, it’s the perverted imagination of westerner that is superimposed on useful idiots among indians. If you read some of the literature created by westerners, you would believe that India was the porn capital of world in ancient times. Even the current gay rights coverage by media is largely to sideline the current political failures of UPA and their lack of focus on real issues such as inflation, employment generation, farmer suicides etc. Ever thought why our media never talks about substantial issues that matter? what is the gay population, 0.01% of India? do we need to spend this kind of energy and attention on those disgusting souls? What next after gay rights, their marriage and then they get to adapt kids so that they can turn them into gays? Again if you notice, leftist, communist liberal idiots are the front line defenders on all these types of stupid nonsense and there is no dearth of them at newslaundry. You can have everything you want, subject to reasonable regulation & societal values of the society you are living in. If that’s not acceptable, you better get packed and get going in the search of greener pastures.

    • Proshant Chakraborty

You’re extremely ignorant about the west, it seems.

Ever heard the name Anita Bryant? Or Proposition 8 in the State of California? Or the Defense of Marriage Act? Or the debates surrounding AIDS, wherein western medicine categorically stated that homosexuals and Haitians are the chief cause of AIDS?

Section 377 is a Western law; it outlaws the kind of sexual expression prevalent in pre-colonial India (as with other pre-colonial societies). So, your statement that the west makes laws based on prevailing conditions in their societies and that we don’t need to do the same is illlogical, and unfounded.

So, you scathing critique of the west is ideological, parochial and silly.

And, there is enough documented evidence to indicate that, in the animal kingdom, there are also homosexual interaction within species. But, among humans, sexual expression is also about cultural and social behaviour. Our fear of homosexuals, our loathing of them, actually, has its genesis in the Victorian social mores.

And, for the record, there’s no “cure” for homosexuality, insofar as you’d want to reduce to just a genetic equation. But you should also know that human social life is much, much more than just series of genetic equations.

      Cheers.

I remember there was one with the guy from Jamaat e islami…. , or better yet bring all of them on a panel so that they can collectively display their bigotry. One interesting thing about the whole gay-bashing business, atleast in the US, has been that many people who were the most virulent turned out to be closet gays, mostly because they overestimated the purported ‘feelings of revulsion’ among the non-homosexual population. In general, people don’t care what other people do in their consensual sex lives.

The media is giving so much importance to Baba Ramdev’s opinion, but do not give that much coverage to opinion of gurus like Sri Sri Ravisankar, who objected the upholding of article 377. The truth is that in Hinduism, homosexuality is not a big issue, just like many other things. On the other hand, if you look some other religions, you can see lines mentioning homosexuality in their holy book. I don’t want to go into details, but what they say is not something to celebrate.

I don’t understand where is this “human evolution” taking us. Where will we ever draw a line?

    a) Soon “loving” your animal pets in “different way” should also be “legalized”. After all Animals are also living beings and they also understand the language of “Love” and they can also have “consensual” sex.

    b) I always wonder why so many Fashion Designers / Makeup artists who were perfectly normal “guys” before they entered those professions over a period of time turns “gayish” in their attitude and actions. Can any one explain “why”?

    c) If “gay marriages” are allowed it automatically legalizes Child Adoption too. How many believe that having “Gay” parents will not have any psychological impact on their adopted “kids”. But who cares about the kids as LGBT should have all the rights and should be “encouraged”.

    d) What next should we allow in India? Cross gender dressing should also be allowed at workplaces after all its their choice and “right” who they want to be on a given day.

People are not understanding the long term ramification this will have in our society if we start encouraging people to indulge in this and project as if its very “normal” thing and you now have more options to look from…

Anyways… I am sure there will be few who instead of debating it in a meaningful way will start hurling abuses on people who oppose “Gay” rights.

    • irregularexpression

      Moronic arguments!

      a. Gay rights is about the right of “consenting adults”. If you comprehend English, look up that term — CONSENTING ADULTS. Can animals consent? Can children consent? Hence bestiality and paedophilia are not even in the same league.

      b. How do you know they were “straight”. May be they were always gay, but afraid of humiliation. May be social stigma affected them subconsciously and forced them to behave straight to conform.

      c. Kids will have psychological impact only because of homophobic bigots who hate and humiliate homosexuals and create social awkwardness for them.

      d. Why not? Who the fuck gives anybody a right to control what others are wearing?

IT IS NORMAL. Whether your narrow mind can comprehend it or not! The long term ramifications are that the society needs to become progressive, and learn to love and accept fellow human beings just as they are instead of being narrow-minded bigots and imposing their choices/opinions on others!

Your arguments are similar to Islamic bigots from Muslim countries who justify denying rights to people of other religions. Learn to empathize with fellow human beings and broaden your horizons!

      • Victor Singh

        You didn’t understood the point.

        a) That is where we will soon be heading towards once this gets out of the way. By your own logic … Why can’t adult “animals” consent and why they should be deprived of human “love” even if it is “unnatural” and something not normal.

        b) How do you know they were not straight and they have not turned “gay” after prolonged exposure to opposite sex shifted their interest in people of same sex? Your “may be” is not convincing.

        c) I dont know why you take it as “hatred” towards Gay. Does any parent want their kid to be a “gay” but does that mean they “hate” gays. The whole point is that one should not “promote” this disorder.

        d) Well may be its normal to you but not for the majority of the people in the society.

IMHO I want to say is LGBT is NOT NORMAL and should not be encouraged as “NORMAL”.

Abusing someone who has a different view than yours is very GAY. (That’s a compliment for you)

        • irregularexpression

You did not have a point!

          a. Consenting animals? What next — animals inheriting property and signing contracts? Are you a complete moron?

          b. It doesn’t matter how they turned gay and it doesn’t matter if you find it convincing. It’s their personal life. It’s NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS what two consenting adults do.

          c. Parents don’t like their daughters sleeping with guys before marriage — so let us bring in laws to criminalize pre-marital sex. First, it is not a disorder.. Second, decriminalizing is not “promoting” and third, it’s NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS what two consenting adults do.

          d. Doesn’t matter. Women going out with head uncovered is not normal in Saudi Arabia, hence they are stoned to death. Your logic sounds similar. Again, NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS.

Yours or anybody’s, humble or otherwise, opinion does not matter what two consenting adults do.

So according to you, homosexuals ‘abuse’ everyone who has a different view. You sir, are a certified bigot!

Nothing said with disdain can be a compliment. You may love animals, but if I call you a pig or a dog with contempt, it is certainly not a compliment. Please shop exposing your low IQ!

          • Victor Singh
Yours or anybody’s, humble or otherwise, opinion does not matter what two consenting adults do.
“NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS” – Why you so much sound like Shoma Chaudhury when she said “Are you the aggrieved party?”. But don’t worry people can now understand why you getting so touchy and reacting abusively.

Anyways after applying your own logic I can safely say it’s only your “BUSINESS” to comment on GAY rights and only your opinion matters cause you are the principal aggrieved party.

            a) Well that argument is to show you the future where human evolution and civilized society is going. Please tell me what is wrong with having sex your adult pet? Cause It’s “unnatural” and similarly having sex with someone of the same gender is also “unnatural” and should not be encouraged.

            b) You didn’t clearly answer my question. So you agree that people can turn “Gay” after a very normal “straight” life and that completely ?

            c) My sympathies are with you if you are inflicted with this disorder.

            d) Well if I had to take extreme position then I would apply your logic that people can walk nude on the streets and that should not come under “indecent behavior”.

I am sure you will continue to say “NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS”

          • irregularexpression

Comparing Rape with Consensual sex shows what a half-wit you are! I don’t give a fuck what you or bigots like you think.

I am not commenting on what consensual adults do you dimwit, I am commenting on unjust laws and denying people their constitutional rights. But illiterate idiots won’t know the difference. I will also comment similarly if the Supreme Court, the Parliament or even God tries to infringe on civil liberties of people — whether it is homosexuality, pre-marital/extra-marital sex, freedom of speech (as in case of section 66a)! You can discuss the ethics and morality of all these ad infinitum, but they are not up for legislation — just like lying (when not under legal oath, in which case it is perjury) cannot be made a crime. If you think they are, you belong to a regressive Islamic country.

            a. Well animals cannot consent, hence it is a retarded argument! Wearing clothes is also unnatural since everybody is born naked — so stop wearing clothes. Also, stop using a computer which was invented by a gay scientist and go back to striking rocks to light a fire!

            b. Irrelevant. Doesn’t matter. NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS!

            c. The only one with a disorder here is you — it is called bigotry, and I don’t see a cure for it. Try standing on your head in Ramdev’s Ashram.

            d. Retarded argument. Nobody is arguing gays (or straight people) be allowed to walk nude or have sex in public. You can take all extreme positions you want!

Yes, what consenting adults do in their privacy is NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS!

I hate commies, NDTV and spend umpteen hours studying and understanding ” our shresth sabhata” and I do not find anything in it that discriminates an individual based on his sexual orientation. It is good to hear views of such yogis including Modi, Dr. Swamy (yes for the great work these politicians are doing for motherland they are yogis in real life) since I believe stupidity makes a man complete. Lets remind ourselves of Gandhi who said society is judged on the way it treats its lowest members. Here lowest is in terms of population not greatness. Was Arjun less of Arjun because he excelled at fooling people dressed as a female? Is “mardaani” a derogatory term for Jhansi ki rani? Then why discriminate people who act openly or privately different than what their natural sex is.

  • Proud Gay Hindu

I consider Ramdev baba as a modern Gandhi who has gone to almost all cities in India with one mission of uniting India with the aid of yoga. Creating awareness about corruption, conversion and western perversion. Its a irony that it took another Gandhian-Anna to further take on corruption on TV stage. Had it not been Ramdev’s efforts yoga would be completely trademarked by westerners. Having said that I disagree with his views on homosexuality. I also disagree with Gandhi on many of his views. Does it make them bad. I believe people should be allowed to disagree in a nation like India. That is the only thing that makes Her a great nation. we cant let our minds be colored in one shade; it limits its working.

the biggest malady of this country is the slave like indoctrination that has been shoved into so called “youth” and “secular” minded. One begins to ask what defines these terms and the answers come through as hollow as they can come. Everything modern and “progressive” to a “secular” mind is whatever is said in “english” or is endorsed in the west as a bonafide indicator of progression. Such is the level of slavery of these so called “rationalists” is that to support a construct that is alien to this country, we bring in western constructs and then resort to saying ..”see”. Just like other diseases being Gay is a disease (not a criminal one albeit). Passing a Gay person as a natural outcome is only tenable to a grossly irrational(I have to refrain from using unscientific as will be explained below) mind. The way a social question is being answered by bringing in examples of scientific personalities is with in itself an indicator of the fact that none of NL writers have even remotely close to a scientific training leaving apart a rigorous one.

The philosophy of science is only applicable to the space of axiomatic structures that enable deduction. Trying to map scientific philosophy onto social constructs is what is pejoratively termed as scientism ( act of charlatans who claim that scientific constructs apply to social constructs) and is generally used by scientifically untrained people trying to support their social agenda based on a incompatible philosophical framework. The class of these people generally are anthropologists, social “scientists” ( what is scientific about social studies beats my imagination) and people who study literature and other BS and claim erudition on the underpinnings of human behavior.

Why do people have laws then. Who stops them from terming being a rapist is a natural outcome of natural selection and hence one can’t punish them for that as nature disposes this. Why to ban nudity in public life?? after all it is the “natural” body we are borne with.Every right comes with a counterbalancing checks lacking which we will have utter anarchy.

  • http://desicontrarian.wordpress.com/ Contrarian

How about famous paedophiles. Start with Lewis Caroll. Roman Polanski? Nabokov? How about famous sadists? Marqui de Sade himself ?

Famous people do not automatically make something right. Homosexuality is “natural”, whatever that may mean. But famous people are not a justification. As Oscar Wilde said “just because some one died for a cause, does not make it right”. By the way, why are so many of these people western? Could’nt find too many Indians? I’ll discount Vikram Seth and Ghosh, they are modernists.

Aside: Wilde was at a party. The hostess knew about his gay proclivities.
