The media must be free and fair, uninfluenced by corporate or state interests. That's why you, the public, need to pay to keep news free.

I started listening to podcasts a few months ago. I have subscribed to a few podcasts and listen to them on and off, depending on the content. However, NL Hafta is one podcast that I religiously listen to every week. In fact, I look forward to it everySaturday. As far as subscribing to newslaundry is concerned, I will do very soon (just waiting to get to a laptop and make a payment). I think it is only fair to subscribe to an agency that provides good content to listen to.

I like the entire NL team on the show and you guys do get some sensible guys as guests. Anyway, this email is not just to praise you but also provide some ideas which may be useful:

1. You may want to explore the option of having a daily news recap podcast show? It need not be as detailed as NL Hafta but just two of you recording the show before you call it a day (may be a 15 minutes show). Of course, I am not aware of the workload involved post recording.

2. On NL Hafta, when you talk about a news item, not all listeners may have a background of the issue or have had the time to follow a particular news item that week. How about a quick summary of the issue and then start with the commentary?

3. Would you want to develop an app for News Laundry? A lot of us read news on phones and tablets and it is more convenient to read it on an app as compared to a website.

4. It would help if there is more disagreement (backed with reasoning, of course) on the show. Usually, you guys seem to be in agreement on most issues. How about getting guests who do not subscribe to your views all the time and allow them to reason out their position?

5. In addition to the recommendations given at the end of the show on interesting articles to read, how about suggesting either a good book or some thought-provoking movie one can watch?

That’s all I have in mind, for now. Do keep up the good work. Would like to read/ hear more from News Laundry.

Thanks,
Naman Mishra

Hi NL team,

I am an avid consumer of newslaundry and I would like to thank you guys for doing great work. And yes Mr. Sekhri, I am a subscriber. I really like NL Hafta and I think your panelists and guests are well informed and are capable of being unbiased critics of political parties and other media. I do sometimes feel that Ranga uncle has a slightly more bias against AAP but I would give him the benefit of the doubt because I think the best way of journalism is to always bring out the hypocrisy of political parties which might not be very evident to the masses.

Anyways, I’m writing today not to debate any topic but just to put forward a few suggestions. Since I am currently living in Boston and follow American news (not vehemently but in enough detail), I find some discussions on Hafta on the current presidential race very superficial. Although Abhinandan has mentioned almost every show that I watch here daily like The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver and my favorite Real Time with Bill Maher (high five Abhinandan!, you also mentioned Jimmy Fallon once), other panelists seem clueless about these.

If you remember, I had written to you guys earlier once when Abhinandan said he doesn’t consider cricket a sport. I still think that after Arunabh left there’s no one in your team who knows cricket and gives it enough respect. I bring this up because I listened to DeshGauravSekhri on the Hafta rating ODI cricket more than test cricket. What is it with you Sekhris!

So, here are a few suggestions for all of you and I hope they can be good for other subscribers especially in the US. Most of these are podcasts because I just love listening to them. They make my long commutes worth it.

For political analysis and general news:

1.) Global Public Square (GPS) with FareedZakaria on CNN: This one covers the whole world news and Fareed also suggests books and documentaries. He also brings some brilliant individual stories like he interviewed a homosexual Muslim woman from Canada. He also had a story about a girl from Pakistan who pretended to be a boy for many years to play sports.

2.) The Bugle: This one currently on a hiatus but will be rebooted in September. It is worth listening to the previous episodes as well. Has Andy Zaltzman and John Oliver, so you can imagine the level of sarcasm.

3.) The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

* Leaving out RadioLab as it has been mentioned quite a few times on the Hafta.

For Cricket:

1.) The Cricketwallah Chronicles with AyazMemon: This has recently started on Saavn. Although I feel that the host doesn’t really have in depth cricket knowledge but Ayaz is such an experienced journalist that it is worth listening to him.

2.) The Cricket Sadist Hour: Undoubtedly THE BEST CRICKET PODCAST EVER. However it is strictly for people like me (or may be Arunabh). This is hosted by Andy Zaltzman and Jarod Kimber and what theory of relativity was to Einstein, cricket is to these two men. They do another video show, Two Men Out, which is available on cricinfo.

Please suggest to me if you or any other user thinks there are other good sources out there.

Cheers,
Nishant

Dear NL team,

A big thanks and appreciation to Kartik, for his timely upload of hafta.

The discussion regarding Modi’s US visit was disappointing. If your intention was just to discuss his speech in short then fine but I felt the views were more inclined to deep personal disliking. Would have been more interesting and informative if important subjects like NSG topics were discussed, or how different channels treated this whole visit, both in print and digital. It was really a helicopter view; nevertheless we came to know Abhinandan’s chest measurements J

Cheers,
Jyoti Dubey
