न्यूज़ लाॅन्ड्रिी टीम को मेरा अभिवादन। मैं आपके पाॅडकास्ट ‘एनएल हफ्ता‘ का एडिक्ट हूं। मैं आपको काफी समय से ‘फोकट‘ में सुनते आ रहा हूं। आपको सुनने के पीछे मेरा पहला कारण था, कि मैं अपनी अंग्रेज़ी सुधारना चाहता था। आपके पैनल को सुन कर मैंने अग्रेज़ी में सोचना, हंसना, दुखी होना, खुष होना, हिक़ारत करना, प्यार करना आदि आदि कई भावनाओं की, अंग्रेज़ी में अभिव्यक्ति सीखी भी है। आपका ये पाॅडकास्ट अपने नाम को सार्थक करने में सफल रहा है, जहां देष के मीडिया की हफ्ते दर हफ्ते बिना नागा धुलायी होती है।

और अब बारी है ‘एनएल हफ्ता‘ के कन्टेन्ट की। आपके संपादकीय द्वारा चर्चा के लिये, हर हफ्ते उठाये जाने वाले मुद्दों से मैं 95 फीसदी  संतुष्ट रहता हूं। क्योंकि मैं भी, आपके जितना एैलीट जर्नलिस्ट तो नहीं, पर छोटा मोटा खबरीलाल हूं , तो न्यूंज़ चैनलों और कुछ एक अखबारों से रोज़ का सरोकार रखता ही हूं। यानि कि, अंग्रेज़ी मीडिया होने के बावजूद भी, आपके द्वारा चर्चा के लिये चुने जा रहे मुद्दे, देसी और देष की आत्मा को दिल से समझने और आम आदमी के सरोकारांे से प्रभावित दिखते हैं। सिवाये अमेरिकी चुनावों पर आपकी खास कवरेज या वैष्यावृत्ति को कानूनी छूट देने पर आपकी बहस आदि। इसके लिये खबरीयों के धोबीघाट के संपादकीय का अभिनंदन।

हां अभिनंदन से ध्यान आया, आपके यहां एक अभिनंदन सेकरी जी हैं, द सीईओ। ‘पंजाबियां दी षाण वक्खरी‘, बुररर्रा। आई सिंप्ली लव दिस गाय। थोड़ी लायी हाई एै तेे अंग्रेज़ी निक्कल गयी प्रावा। तेरे हेयर स्टाईल दा मैं षैदायी आं। होर मैन्नू किसी वी त्रिक्के ते, तेरे सिंगल होण दी वजै नहीं लबदी पैयी एै। आर्मि अफसर दा पुत्त, एैन्नी वदिया अंग्रज़ी बोल्दा एै, एैन्ना सोणा सुणक्खा वी एै, पंजाब्बी वी वदिया बोल्ली लैंदा एै, मधु मैम दा लाड़ला वी एै। प्रावा तेरी ‘प्रायोरिटीज़‘ ते थां ते नें ? मेरे कोल्लों इक होर एडवाईज़ ले लै, अपणी षुगर नू दिल ते न ला, होर माड़ा करूगी। नैचुरोपैथी फड़ लै। अरे त्रेहन सर नू गुरू वणा लै यरा।

ख़ैर, जोक्स अपार्ट, अभिनंदन सर मैं आपको एक एैसा जर्नलिस्ट/एंकर/मौडरेटर समझता हूं, जिनका दिमाग, दिल के काबू में रहता है। चर्चा के दौरान, किसी भी मुद्दे पे आपका पक्ष, साॅफ्ट साईड पे ही सुनायी पड़ता है। उदाहरण के तौर पर, इस ही एैपिसोड में, यूपी के एक अस्पताल में बदइंतज़ामी और करप्षन के चलते, एक गरीब मां बाप के नौ महीने के बच्चे की मौत पर आपका बयान, पूर्णतः आपके दिल से निकला हुआ दर्द था। उसके बाद तुरंत आपका दिमाग बोला कि, हां, अपने बच्चे की मौत के गुनाहगारो की हत्या के लिये मुझे, देष के कानून से सज़ा भी मंज़ूर है। काष आपके जैसे दिल से जीने वाले पत्रकारों को सहेजने की काॅर्पोरेट्स में औकात होती। दैट्स व्हाय, जब जनता खर्चती है, जनता की सेवा होती है, और जब पूंजिपति खर्चते हैं, पूंजिपतियों की सेवा होती है।

मधु मैडम को चरण वंदना। मे बी षी विल नौट अंडरस्टैंड माई वर्डस। षी मे से, हू द फक कैन टाई माई फीट। मैम रैस्पेक्ट्स आपको। आपका और त्रेहन सर का एक पूराना इंटरव्यू देख कर मुझे आष्चर्य हुआ आप दोनों पति पत्नी हैं। कारण ये कि, कुछ साल पहले अपने मीडिया काॅलेज के एक प्रोजेक्ट के लिये नरेष सर का इंटरव्यू करने एैस्काॅर्ट जाने का मौका लगा था। नरेष सर ने हमारे सामने हमारे ईपी की एैसी बजायी कि क्या बताउं। प्रोडक्षन दूरदर्षन के लिये था, षायद इस कारण। एक पत्रकार के प्रति नरेष सर के इस व्यवहार को देख कर मुझे ये विष्वास नहीं हुआ कि उनकी जीवन साथी भी एक पत्रकार है। ख़ैर, आपके ‘कैन यू टेक इट‘ षो का मैं दीवाना हूं, उसे प्लीज़ कन्टिन्यू कीजिये फिर से। अपने समकक्ष पत्रकारों के इंटरव्यू के दौरान उनके जीवन कई एैसे पहलू , जो ंषायद काफि निजि हाते हैं, को भी आप उनके मुंह से आॅन कैमरा निकलवा लेती हैं ये काबिले तारीफ है। ‘कैन यू टेक इट‘ का विनोद दुआ सर और करन थापर वाले एैपिसोड मुझे खास तौर पर पसंद आये। राना अयूब के इंटरव्यू में आप थोड़ी दंभी और रूड नज़र आयीं। एनएल हफ्ता  पर आपके रक्खे हुए पक्षों से एक्सपीरियेंस की खुषबू आती है। सीखने को मिलता है। पर आपसे एक षिकायत भी है, जो मुझे हफ्ता पैनल पर मौजूद लगभग सभी पैनलिस्ट से है कि, आप आम आदमी पार्टी के किसी भी कदम को आप लोग सिर्फ एक ही चष्में से देखते हैं और वो है आलोचना का। मैडम आप तो देष में सरकारी-ग़ैर सरकारी चिकित्सा क्षेत्र की बदहाली को बखूबी समझती हैं। दिल्ली सरकार द्वारा चिकित्सा क्षेत्र में किये जा रहे काम की सराहना तो बनती ही है, खासकर आपके मुंह से।

रंगा अंकल को लाल सलाम। एनएल हफ्ता पे ये एक एैसे प्राणी हैं जो इतने पढ़े लिखे होने के बावजूद भी पत्रकारिता में दिलचस्पी रखते हैं। आई मीन क्या नौलेज बेस है भाईसाब। ये जेएनयू वालोें को लिखने पढ़ने के वायरस का इंजैक्षन दिया जाता है षायद। जब एनएल में उठे किसी भी मुद्दे पर रंगा अंकल अपनी राय रखते हैं तो एैसा प्रतीत होता है कि, सड़क किनारे कच्छे में नहाता हुआ बंदा अचानक किसी सोफेस्टिकेटेड जकूज़ी में पहुंच गया हो। यानि टूजी से सीधा एट जी। पर रंगा अंकल आपको आम आदमी पार्टी से इतना परहेज़ क्यों है। कृपा कर इस बात पर भी थोड़ा प्रकाष डालें। आम आदमी पार्टी में कुछ तो एैसा होगा जो आपको पसंद आता हो।

दीपांजना मैम के बारे में ज़्यादा रिसर्च नहीं मारी है तो उनके बारे में कुछ पता नहीं है, पर एनएल हफ्ता पैनल पर एक बंगाली पत्रकार का होना लाज़मी था। दीपांजना जी, आई होप देयर इज़ नो मिस्ट्री बिहाईंड प्रोफैषनल कैमिस्ट्री बिटवीन यू एंड मधु मैम। पुच्छण च की हर्ज़ा एै।

मनीषा जी पिछले सात आठ एैपिसोड्स से काफी पैसिव सुनायी पड़ रही हैं। जैसे जब किसी छोटे षहर की लड़की को प्यार व्यार हो जाता है तो वो चुप चुप गुमसुम सी रहने लगती है, वैसे ही। एनएल हफ्ता पर उठे कई मुद्दों पर मनीषा जी की के व्यूज़ कई बार सरप्राइज़िंग्ली डिफरेंट होते हैं। जैसे ‘जहां न पहुंचे रवि वहां पहुंचे कवि‘ टाईप। इनकी राईटअप्स पढ़ने में आसान और इज़ीली डाईजेस्टेबल लगते हैं। मनीषा जी भी दिल से ज़्यादा काम लेती हैं पर इनका दिल पता नहीं क्यों आम आदमी पार्टी के अच्छे कामों को देख कर क्यों नहीं पसीजता।

आपने एनएल हफ्ता को और पाॅपुलर करने के लिये सुझाव मांगे थे। मेरा सुझाव है कि आप इस पाॅडकास्ट में हिंदी भाषी पत्रकारों की सहभागिता और बढ़ाईये। ओम थानवी, रवीष कुमार, अभय दूबे जैसे अन्य कई प्रबुद्ध पत्रकार हैं जो आपके षो के पैटर्न को सूट करते हैं।

एक बहोत ज्ञानवर्धक और वैराईटी से भरे पाॅडकास्ट के लिये एनएल हफ्ता टीम का अभिवादन और अभिनन्दन नू इक होर बिग बुरररर्रा।

Wow! Loved the ending song of NLHafta 80…Begum Akhtar’s Ab chalakte hue saagar nahin dekhe jaate…

I have been a keen reader/listener of Newslaundry right from its beginning. Love the idea of having independent and free media. However, to turn the idea into a successful business – business, because it has to survive; so that others can follow the same and bring the desired change — certainly more and sincere efforts, must be taken that could make the content more saleable and attract more subscribers.

Efficiency

For instance, let’s do a microanalysis of Hafta, which takes one and half hour time of a subscriber/listener weekly. And, what do you bring on the table? Efficiency wise the hour content can be well said in a 15-minutes window.

The second point, be factually and historically correct.
If you bring the names of Gandhi, Ambedkar or other bigwigs, where is your reference? Gandhi was never up for the ban on cow slaughtering, He took sanyas from politics right after Haripura Congress Meet, somewhere in 1938. He didn’t attend Constituent Assembly of India meetings or even Congress meetings after ’38. The drafting committee chairperson had least liking for Gandhi. Then how could he be responsible for the act he never endorsed?

When I say cut the crap, proscribe Ms Deepanjana for the better efficiency of Hafta as we are not listening to it for what the hell she thinks. If you don’t have anything to share; for god sake, don’t waste our time. Having said that I liked her latest article on Irom but that doesn’t obviate her lack of knowledge expertise on politics, history, and current affairs. Even her comment on prostitution in Hafta 79 was factually incorrect. ( Data suggests). She has her expertise in the entertainment zone and NL has a separate podcast on the same.

What is do be discussed?

For instance, you talked about Kashmir issue. But, what’s new that you brought on the table? You had a wonderful opportunity to highlight the issues those were not discussed on TV. You could have brought Najam Sethi arguing that if they are taking human rights’ side on the issue that means he is in favor of that India must raise its voice for what’s happening in Baluchitan and PoK? After all over 15000 people have been killed in Balochistan.

What could be the way forward? what were Vajpayee’s initiatives that brought peace (temporarily) in Kashmir. Mistakes that Manmohan did…Factual gap b/w Kashmir’s media and Delhi’s what NY Times/Guardian had to say?

Be it Modi’s cow comment. On Aug 4, NY Times (Aug 3) writes their editorial about ‘Modi and India’s Dalits’ Weeks ago, Guardian too had pointed out the same. Aug 5/6 (don’t remember the source), there was a top leaders chat, where Jaitley reportedly was present, on ‘How to change International Media Perception and how important it is for the GoI’. Following which came the cow remark at town hall. The big question is was that seriously aimed to solve the issue? This is important. what is current export data? what was earlier?

What’s good about Abhinandan is that he tries to bring up the issues on micro level. However, he fails as no one on the table is up for it.

Anand, being the devil’s advocate at least tries to bring some data. Pity, these are often half-baked.

No comments on Madhu, just feel sometimes her comments don’t come thru as she desires.

A subscriber, I wanted to convince my Dad too, who is a Prof. for the same. Having listened to Abhinandan on Hafta and he advised me to stop my contribution saying ‘we must not contribute to promoting foul language’. Pls avoid if it’s not a part of the content.

1)      On the discussion of Right to sue the hospitals for malpractices in India, something to ponder over on what it does to the health care cost in general, over time.. ( the US model )

One of the several reasons  why Healthcare in US is prohibitively expensive (I had ACL surgery sometime back, in New York City, the surgeon’s bill alone was $30,000+.. of course insurance takes care of it & I pay high premiums ) is the fact that patients in effect pay premium for the “Right” to sue the hospital if things go wrong. ( How? Because the doctors/surgeons now have to buy expensive malpractice insurances, which effectively adds to the patient bill!). I came across one discussion where the proposal is to maybe  gradually move towards a set up where one could waive off this option to sue, to get cheaper health care services. In a way, opposite to what we are aspiring in India it seems.

“Yamaguchi, a resident of Nagasaki, was in Hiroshima on business for his employer Mitsubishi Heavy Industries when the city was bombed at 8:15 am, on August 6, 1945. 2)      On subject of how the  “State” should not direct its citizen on what to eat or drink, where do we stand when the state bans (say) drugs like Heroine, Coke , Meth or for that matter Marijuana. Are we not okay with State deciding what’s good for its citizen in such cases.

I think, it’s now more than twice in past several months, that I was inspired and visited the subscription page, to find that PayPal is the only way I could pay in USD? Never used PayPal, don’t want to figure that.  I will wait, maybe another few months.

Needless to say I LOVE your podcast, my Friday commute home from work, starts with the Hafta on my headphones, unless it’s not released on iTunes yet, which happens quite often? ( would love a consistent release time)
