Modi’s knowledge of Indian history isn’t the best

Seen the hashtag #udtaPM on Twitter? It’s not just because Prime Minister Narendra Modi is whizzing around the world or because $100 million worth of artifacts that the United States has returned to India. In America, Modi said to the press that India’s Konark temple was built 2,000 years ago and that on it are statues of women wearing skirts and carrying handbag, which proves that “uss samay bhi yeh cheez maujood hogi” (at that time too, these things existed).

Unfortunately for Modi, Konark dates back to the 13th century, which makes it significantly less than 2,000 years in age.

Since then Twitter has been lighting up with trolls as well as fact checkers who have asked Modi to read up on history before making statements.

And then as time passed, things got more ridiculous.

Being the sensitive sort, we’re actually rather sympathetic to the Prime Minister’s woes. With textbooks being rewritten regularly, it’s not surprising that Modi is getting his facts muddled.
