Contribute“The Secretary-General has made clear his hopes for the ratification of the Paris Agreement by a large number of states as early as possible, so he would be pleased by swift action by India. He looks forward to receiving India’s instrument of accession,” UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s deputy spokesman Farhan Haq told Press Trust of India.
The window of signing the agreement will end on April 21, 2017. However by signing the agreement now, India will be a part of 55/55 conference which will be writing the new green laws.
The agreement aims to “strengthen the global response to the threat of climate change, in the context of sustainable development and efforts to eradicate poverty.”
One of the highlights of the agreement is to “aggregate emission pathways consistent with holding the increase in the global average temperature to well below 2 °C above preindustrial levels and pursuing efforts to limit the temperature increase to 1.5 °C above preindustrial levels.”
