As West Bengal started voting on Saturday in phase one of the assembly election, the state’s politics was rocked by series of audio leaks, allegedly by the Bharatiya Janata Party and Trinamool Congress.

The first leak is allegedly a conversation between chief minister Mamata Banerjee and BJP leader Pralay Pal. Pal used to be the TMC but quit in 2011 and joined BJP. In the audio, Banerjee can purportedly be heard asking Pal to help her win the election, especially in Nandigram. The TMC, meanwhile, has questioned the veracity of the audio.

The second audio has been leaked from the TMC camp, this time an alleged conversation between BJP leaders Mukul Roy and Shishir Bajoria on ways to influence the Election Commission. TMC has claimed that days after this conversation, the EC acted in the manner they wanted.
