Neha Sahgal is an associate director at the Pew Research Center, specialising in international polling on religion.

She speaks with Sidharth Singh of Newslaundry about Pew’s recent study on religious tolerance and segregation in India which she co-authored.

One of the study’s more significant findings, she says, is that while “respect for other religions is a key national value” for many Indians, a lot of people from the majority community believe that to be “truly Indian” it is very important to be a Hindu.

Talking about religious conversion and interfaith marriages, Neha points out that there are few of them.
