Manisha is back to hosting duties this week, bringing you the worst of the worst from the world of TV news. This week, we saw some ridiculous ground reporting as reporters were on a mission, following the police convoy escorting gangster Atiq Ahmed from Gujarat to Uttar Pradesh. The “reporting” extensively covered how, when and where Atiq went to the loo, providing us with information no one needed. While Aaj Tak and TV9 decided to zoom in while Atiq peed, News18 and ABP told us when and where he relieved himself in  the course of the journey.

When not covering Atiq going to the loo, our usual suspects asked questions of the opposition. Kejriwal’s speech attacking the prime minister was given barely any airtime, Times Now prioritised the PM’s speech, and Navika and Amish were guilty of spreading fake news.

Watch.

Press Freedom Fund

Democracy isn't possible without a free press. And the press is unlikely to be free without reportage on the media. As India slides down democratic indicators, we have set up a Press Freedom Fund to examine the media's health and its challenges.

Complaining about the media is easy and often justified. But hey, it’s the model that’s flawed.
