This week on NL Hafta, Newslaundry’s Abhinandan Sekhri, Raman Kirpal, Shardool Katyayan and Jayashree Arunachalam are joined by senior journalist Arati Jerath. 

The conversation begins with the ‘INDIA’ shaped elephant in the room, the Monsoon Parliament session and the BJP’s avoidance strategy. The panel discusses how bills have been passed in the Parliament in the absence of a significant part of the opposition. They also delved into how the Manipur situation has prime minister Narendra Modi turn to his modus operandi of being absent.

Arati ponders over the value of federalism in the country. The panel then moves on to discuss the intra politics of this session’s no confidence motion. “Does this hold the potential to turn the tide in favour of ‘INDIA’ or perhaps at least Manipur? Only the future will tell,” Arati adds. Abhinandan then throws light on the need for the opposition’s readiness to put up a fight. The panel concedes that currently only Rahul Gandhi, Mamta and AAP seem geared up.
