The assembly election in Chhattisgarh this year holds special significance for the Congress. It is, after all, among the states where the party needs to retain power as it prepares to stitch up an alliance against the BJP ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

In this conversation with Atul Chaurasia, Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel spoke about Hindutva politics, communal tension, ties with Congress colleagues, the Uniform Civil Code, and the Adani Group. He also discussed the Narwa Garwa Ghurwa Bari and the cow urine schemes, seen as part of the Congress’s “soft Hindutva”.

The Congress leader also recalled an incident linked to the controversial film Kashmir Files.
