Tamil Nadu’s Thoothukudi witnessed intense floods in December last year, affecting thousands of people in the district. In Eral, one of the worst-affected areas, many families lost their homes.

Ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, Thoothukudi locals say that despite huge losses, and filing repeated petitions with the state officials, no government aid was provided to them. And those who lost their houses in the floods are still homeless.

Many of the locals – who are struggling to rebuild their houses, and staying with relatives or in rented homes – have now vowed not to cast their votes in the upcoming general elections.
