This week, we look at a shocking report that should have been at the centre of primetime debates but wasn’t. Turns out, a billion Indians have no money to spend on non-basic items! But TV news continues to avoid talking about growing inequality like the plague as the rich get richer and the rest of India struggles to make ends meet.

The stock market is crashing, shareholders are losing money faster than Ranveer Allahbadia is losing his followers, and foreign investors are running in the opposite direction. But our news anchors are busy taking dips in rivers instead of diving into real issues.

Speaking of rivers, the Ganga is apparently super clean – according to a “scientist” whose biggest achievement is…making pearls. Yes, you read that right. While pollution control agencies say the water is full of faecal bacteria, TV news says bacteriophages will save us all (science, but make it jugaad).

From economic myths to magical Ganga theories, there’s plenty this episode of TV Newsance has for you.

Watch.
