Early Wednesday morning, India launched Operation Sindoor, targeting terror camps in Pakistan. As Pakistan responded with cross-border shelling and drone attacks – intercepted by the military – Indian TV channels gave a whole new meaning to the "fog of war".

Fidayeen attacks that didn’t happen, an imaginary invasion of Karachi, coup in Pakistan – anchors reported fiction as fact, stoking panic at a sensitive moment.

While civilians in border districts lost lives, TV news celebrated missile strikes, inflated death tolls, and even joked about how “fun” a Pakistani attack would be.

This week exposed just how far standards of TV journalism have fallen, and why India urgently needs a credible media.

To cut through the noise, Newslaundry, in collaboration with The News Minute and Scroll, has launched a special initiative: a live news bulletin on Operation Sindoor, airing thrice daily at 9 am, 2 pm, and 8 pm.
