Four days after the flash floods tore through Uttarakhand, the Dharali area is still completely cut off from the road. Phone lines were down till Friday evening. The constant helicopter movement gives the impression of large-scale rescue efforts, but locals say the reality is different. They allege that only tourists are being evacuated while villagers remain stranded. Families of those trapped expressed anger and deep concern.

On Friday, Dharali residents protested against the administration, refused government relief cheques, and raised slogans. The government, meanwhile, claims over 300 people have been rescued so far.

Fresh rain in the area has heightened the risk of damage to ongoing relief work, with the threat of roads being cut off again adding to local anxiety.
