Nearly 3 years after PM Modi announced the formation of a committee on MSP reforms, the panel is yet to submit its report.
In 2020–21, farmers across India took to the streets against the three farm laws. Along with the demand to scrap these laws, farmers pressed for a legal guarantee on Minimum Support Price. Announcing the withdrawal of the contentious laws, PM Narendra Modi had promised a committee to make MSP more effective and transparent.
The committee was finally constituted in July 2022, eight months after the announcement. Yet, three years on, it has not submitted its report. Its last meeting was held on January 8, 2025. Since then, there have been no further meetings.
According to available information, the committee has held six meetings so far, with its sub-committees convening 39 times – making for a total of 45 meetings. More than Rs 38 lakh has already been spent on these meetings, but the report remains awaited.
