‘Asking for a ban on Sidhu is just a deviation,’ says Kapil Sharma

Actor and comedian Kapil Sharma addressed the media yesterday on the controversy over Congress leader Navjyot Singh Sidhu’s remarks. Sharma stated that calling for a ban on Sidhu will not solve the problem at hand and that such demands are a mere deviation from the issue. “Mudde ki baat karo, agar genuine hai problem, aap uspe focus karo…aap youth ka dhyaan divert kar rahe ho [you should speak on the issue and focus on the problem and not divert the attention of the youth].”

After the Pulwama attack, Sidhu said there should be dialogue with Pakistan. “Wherever wars are fought and such things (Pulwama-type attack) happen, dialogue also continues simultaneously. There is a need to find a permanent solution (to issues between India and Pakistan). Such people (terrorists) have no religion, no country and no caste,” he said. This sparked outrage on social media, especially among the Right-wing, following which there was a call to ban Sidhu from the Kapil Sharma Show. Sidhu was let off from the show and actress Archana  Pooran Singh replaced him. But it appears Sony TV‘s woes are not over yet. Following Sharma’s comments on the Sidhu controversy, there’s a fresh demand now to boycott Kapil Sharma himself.

#BoycottKapilSharma was the top trend this morning with Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga, spokesperson of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Delhi, asking people to unsubscribe Sony TV.
