According to Pew Research Centre’s latest findings published three days ago, religion and social hostilities involving religion have risen for the first time in three years in 2015 in the world. Significantly, the report ranks India 4th, after Syria, Nigeria and Iraq, on the social hostilities index.

Eleven countries fall in the index for very high social hostilities involving religion, the same number as a year before. A country with a score of 7.2 or more on a scale of 10 finds its place in the index.

In 2014, India was ranked 7th in the same index. While the number of countries remained same in the category, there were some changes. Lebanon and Sri Lanka ranked high in 2014 but dropped out of the category in 2015. The opposite is true for Russia and Egypt. Both the countries which were not there in the index earlier made it to the list in 2015.
