The war between the Times Group and Republic TV just got serious. According to The Economic Times’ report, Bennett, Coleman & Co Ltd (BCCL) has registered a criminal case against Republic TV Co-Founder and Managing Director Arnab Goswami and its anchor Prema Sridevi for copyright infringement. Goswami and Sridevi are former Times Now employees.

The complaint alleges a list of offences against the two journalists, including a criminal breach of trust, theft, misappropriation of property and infringement of BCCL’s intellectual property rights. BCCL has accused its former employees of using stolen content on Republic TV on multiple occasions on May 6 and May 8, 2017.

While on May 6, the first day of their launch, Republic TV ran an ‘exposé’ on the former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, on May 8 it ran audio tapes of phone conversations between former Times Now correspondent Sridevi and late Sunanda Pushkar, wife of Congress MP Shashi Tharoor. The materials used in both the stories—audio tapes of phone conversations—were procured while Goswami and Sridevi were still employees of BCCL, according to the complaint.

The complaint filed with the Azad Maidan Police Station, Mumbai, also states that Goswami and Sridevi have claimed on-air that they have been in possession of the May 8 audio tapes for over two years, which was during their tenure with BCCL.

Moreover, the complaint alleges that both former Times Now journalists’ have willfully and deliberately misappropriated Times Now’s intellectual property. Republic TV has been in soup with BCCL earlier when both parties staked claims to the frequently used catchphrase “Nation Wants To Know.”
