Filing a police complaint in Uttar Pradesh can be a slippery  business. According to reports from the state, this is the procedure followed in Mohanlal Ganj Police Station in Lucknow, UP to file a FIR:

Head Constable of Police Ramyagya Yadav asked a complainant to press his feet when the latter came to get a First Information Report registered. A Nav Bharat Times report says that the video must be days old as Yadav has been on medical leave since July 16.

In a similar incident on June 17, a woman was allegedly made to massage a sub inspector in Hardoi district of UP. She had gone to the police station to lodge a complaint and the sub inspector she told her that the complaint would only be filed if she massaged him.

We get that being in law enforcement is a stressful job, but if this is how UP police is going to get its massages, perhaps it’s time to get a masseuse on the rolls. Or better yet, remind the cops that they’re not above the law and the public doesn’t exist to maalish their ego.
