Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Student Union President Kanhaiya Kumar is back in news. On Tuesday, Kumar reportedly said that security officials at Maharashtra Vidhan Bhavan denied him entry in the house despite having a “valid pass”. He was in Mumbai to attend a programme of the Peasants and Workers’ Party (PWP) and expressed a desire to attend the on-going session of the Maharashtra Assembly. PWP Member of Legislative Council (MLC) arranged passes for the JNU leader.

While Patil told media that he couldn’t help Kumar as he was attending the proceeding of the House, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Ram Kadam refuted allegations made by Kumar, who is out on bail in a sedition case. Kadam has been reported to state that Kumar didn’t have a valid pass and that he wasn’t carrying it either.

Yesterday, Congress party leaders, including former Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, raised this issue in the Assembly. While Chavan termed the incident “shameful”, MLA Naseem Khan, who brought up the issue in the Assembly, asked “Is Kumar a terrorist?”

Meanwhile in Delhi, the police yesterday told the High Court that JNUSU president Kumar “seemed to have violated” conditions of his bail order. Referring to his public speeches, it said that the JNUSU President has “misused his liberty.”
