The Supreme Court (SC) on Friday cancelled Sahara chief Subrata Roy’s parole and ordered him to be taken back into custody. Roy had sought parole to carry out the last rites of his mother, who passed away after a prolonged illness in May. Apart from Roy, two other Sahara directors were also sent to jail by the court.

According to a report in the Times of India, Roy invited the apex court’s ire over incorrect statements on the status of the Sahara group’s properties. Counsel for market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) informed the court that most of the properties meant for auction have already been attached by the Income Tax department. As a result, those properties cannot be sold, SEBI’s counsel said.

Roy has already served a two-year term in Tihar jail after a lengthy legal battle with SEBI.
