Shunglu Committee submits report to Delhi LG Jung

Almost three months after its formation, the three-member Shunglu Committee submitted its report on alleged irregularities in the Delhi government’s working to Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung.

After the August 4 Delhi High Court order, which declared the LG as the administrative head of Delhi, Jung had formed the committee to review around 400 files on decisions taken by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Delhi government. Former Comptroller and Auditor General VK Shunglu, former Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalaswami and former Chief Vigilance Commissioner Pradeep Kumar were appointed as members of the expert panel. According to Indian Express, the report has probed alleged irregularities and nepotism in appointments in Delhi government – including Health Minster Satyendra Jain’s daughter’s appointment in the health department. The report also states that the committee’s findings have faulted government’s premium bus service tender.

Shunglu Committee has asked the LG office to make the report public and it is likely to escalate the turf war between LG Jung and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Earlier in October, Jung has rejected Delhi government’s request to dissolve the Shunglu panel saying, “truth hidden behind these files” must come out. (Newslaundry tried to reach the LG office for its official response on the Shunglu Committee report. The copy will be updated as and when we get a response.)
