Aligarh Muslim University Students’ Union (AMUSU) conducted a demonstration on Wednesday demanding a fast track court trial of the people who lynched Pehlu Khan and compensation for his family. Earlier last week, 55 year Khan and four others were assaulted in Rajasthan’s Alwar district even though they had produced documents to show they had legally purchased the cows.

“It’s high time we stop calling these gau rakshaks mere ‘goons’. They are not goons. These so called gau rakshaks have now become terrorists with the support of BJP government and police,” said Faizul Hasan, AMUSU President. The students marched from the varsity library to district administration office and tried to get inside the administration office in order to submit a memorandum to the Superintendent of Police (SP). Since SP denied to meet the students, they blocked the Anoopshankhar road and raised slogans. Subsequently, SP came out and received the memorandum demanding fast-track court trial of culprits. However, SP didn’t respond to students’ demand.

“After Akhlaq and Minhaj, Pehlu Khan is the latest victims of these hatred brigades in Alwar district of Rajasthan which has put questions on our democracy and secularism”, said Amirul Jaish, one of the students who participated in the demonstration.

“I, on behalf of the whole AMU  students community, demand nationwide blanket ban on meat and its export to stop harassment on a particular community by the government aided terrorists,” said AMUSU Vice President Nadeem Ansari.
