Veteran actor Reema Lagoo, known for commonly playing the role of ‘ma’ in several Bollywood blockbusters, passed away this morning after a heart attack. Lagoo was admitted at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, Mumbai last night after she complained of chest pains. She was 59.
Lagoo, a seasoned actor, has worked in numerous Marathi projects as well as several films like Maine Pyaar Kiya, Kal Ho Na Ho, Hum Aapke Hain Kuan, Hum Saath Saath Hain, Saajan, Vaastav. Her last project was Naamkaran, a show by Mahesh Bhatt that aired on Star Plus.
The demise of Bollywood’s favourite mother has led to an outpour of condolences on social media, with the film fraternity sharing their loss.
Lagoo, daughter of Marathi stage actress Mandakini Bhadbhade, has won four Filmfare Awards for best supporting actress and worked with most of the noted names win Bollywood including Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Aamir, playing the mother of all three.
Survived by her daughter, Lagoo did not suffer from any health issues. “It is really shocking for all of us that she is no more,” said Vinay Waikul, her son-in-law.
A health report will be issued later in the day, Ram Naraian, executive director of the hospital told PTI.
