A few days ago, it was reported that Dalits in Uttar Pradesh’s Kushinagar district were given soap and a sachet of shampoo to “clean themselves” before a visit by chief minister Yogi Adityanath. In response, a Dalit outfit from Gujarat plans to send a 16 feet long soap to Adityanath “so that he can bath with it before meeting Dalits,” the Indian Express reports.

Kirit Rahtod and Kantilal Parmar, members of the Dr Ambedkar Vechan Pratibandh Samiti (Committee for Ban on Marketing of Dr Ambedkar), said while announcing their decision in Ahmedabad on Thursday, “The attitude of Yogi Adityanath indicates his manuvadi (casteist) approach. He needs to cleanse himself of these impurities.”

The IE report states that the soap will be put up on display at a public function in Ahmedabad on June 9 before it is packed and sent to Lucknow.

Members of the group revealed that the soap will be prepared by a woman of the balmiki community. They also plan on meeting Dalit Members of Parliament (MPs) and Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) from Gujarat and question them on their “silence” following attacks on Dalits in UP since the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) formed the government in the state.
