Police said Mohammad Alimuddin of Manuwa village in Hazaribagh was stopped by a 40-strong mob (Hindustan Times reported a 100-strong mob) which said he was transporting “beef”. He was dragged out of the Maruti van he was in and beaten up severely. The van was set on fire. When Alimuddin was taken to the hospital, he was declared brought dead.

Commenting on the lynching Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu said, “It’s a barbaric incident, should be condemned by all, don’t bring religious angle in it”.
