A Defense Ministry probe ordered into the Adarsh housing society scam has indicated the involvement of several senior military officers, including General Deepak Kapoor and General NC Vij, who were both Chiefs of Army Staff, and three lieutenant-generals and four major-generals. The Ministry has recommended that they be debarred from holding government offices. 

The 31-storey Adarsh housing society was an apartment meant for families of Kargil war veterans but several top politicians, bureaucrats and military officers got to own apartments here, the Hindu reported.

The inquiry was ordered by former Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar in April 2016 on the direction of the Bombay High Court and was conducted by retired IAS officer, Rajan Katoch, and Lt. Gen. Ravi Thodge.

The most high-profile casualty of the scam had been Congress leader Ashok Chavan, who had to resign as chief minister in 2010, when the collusion of politicians and bureaucrats to bend all rules and regulations came to light.
