The Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government has been under fire for not being able to contain the communal violence erupting over an inflammatory Facebook post by a 17-year-old Hindu boy. And while it must be taken to task for the failure of the state machinery adequately manage the situation, the reasons attributed to this failure seem to range far and wide.

Certain parties however, felt that such an outcome was inevitable.

The Bharatiya Janata Party’s West Bengal state president Dilip Ghosh, told Newslaundry, “Jahan bhi Muslim ka sankhya badhti hai wahan asatvastyata hota hai. Duniya mein jitni bhi Mulsim country hai wahan bhi same cheez ho raha hai (Wherever in the world Muslims are dominant, trouble and unrest brews)”. It’s not known if the central leadership would agree to such a statement, but Ghosh firmly believes that the situation in Kashmir can also be attributed to Muslim dominance.

He made no bones about claiming that every riot – including the present one in Basirhat – was started by the Muslim community. Other communities, he said, only “react” such as in the case of the Ram Mandir.

According to Ghosh, over the last few years over one crore Bangladeshis have illegally migrated to West Bengal which has jeopardized the local demography. “Ninety per cent of the anti-social element in the Muslim dominated areas is from the community,” the Kharagpur MLA said.

The West Bengal police had failed to quell the tension which later became a full fledged riot that began in Baduria constituency of North 24 Parganas on July 2. Over the next two days, markets were attacked, shops were ransacked and a few houses were targeted.

Char din tak hinsa ko kabu mein lane ka prayash nahi karte hain. Ek vishesh community ka paksh mein rahte hain. Police ek danda nahi chalaya (The police didn’t act against the rioters. They kept supporting a particular community) claimed Ghosh. The BJP state chief wants to impose Article 356 of the Constitution – Emergency.

He had no qualms in stating that the BJP will avenge any and every attack against the party. He admits that his statements can be ‘outrageous’ but he refuses to stop making them until other political parties follow suit.

Not willing to let the matter lie, Ghosh evoked the terror attack on the Amarnath Yatra. “Kisne kiya attack wo Hindu tha kya? (Those who attacked the pilgrims, were they Hindu?)” Not content with that, he also said that Sheikh Saleem, the bus driver could be responsible-“Pehla dosh to ussi ka tha …Wo kaise kya iska bhi enquiry hona chahiye (He should be first held responsible for this. How did he leave in the night, this should be looked into.)”

Listen to Ghosh weigh in on BJP leaders falling for morphed images about the Basirhat riots, why he thinks West Bengal will turn into Bangladesh and much more.
