The Jawaharlal Nehru University is likely to get a military tank on campus as Vice-Chancellor Jagadesh Kumar requested union minister Dharmendra Pradhan and General VK Singh for one on Sunday. The idea of showcasing a tank was first brought up in the aftermath of the February 9, 2016 event on campus, where the alleged raising of anti-India slogans led to students being arrested for sedition. It is important to recall that JNU was the first university which set up a Wall of Heroes, where it displayed the portraits of Param Vir Chakra decorated soldiers on campus. These attempts by the VC have been described as ‘interesting’ ways of instilling national pride and constantly reminding the university’s students of the sacrifices made by the army.
