While Goa Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Manohar Parrikar won the bypoll from Panaji, one of Goa’s 40 political constituencies, another BJP leader Vishwajit Rane won from the Valpoi constituency. 

Parrikar, who is entering his sixth term as an MLA, defeated Girish Chodankar by a margin of 4,803 votes. Chodankar secured 5,059 votes while Parrikar won with 9862 votes.

As soon as Parrikar’s victory was announced, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted to congratulate the BJP leaders. Parrikar has that he would be resigning from the Upper House of the Parliament next week.
