The government banned condom ads on the request of the Advertising Standards Council of India.
The Information and Boradcasting ministry has banned the telecast of condom ads between 6 am and 10 pm because they are “indecent, especially for children”. The government invoked provisions of the Cable Television Networks Rules, 1994, for the ban. Condom ads can be shown post 1 pm till 6 am. The move has come in for criticism and ridicule in some quarters. Here’s what we think about it.
