Unlike the Congress, which is questioning the exit polls, Jignesh Mevani, the Dalit leader and independent candidate from Vadgam, acknowledges the possibility of defeat in the interview. But Mevani says the Congress could clinch 95 seats in the Gujarat Assembly. Importantly, he says that if he wins in Vadgam, it will be “by a small margin of 5000 votes”. One of the three Young Turks in this election, he has no qualms in accepting that he could even lose. He does maintain that even if he wins or loses, he will continue with social work. And that converting popularity into votes is not very easy.
