Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra has recommended that Justice Shri Narayan Shukla, the eight senior-most judge of the Allahabad High Court, be impeached, The Hindu reported.

According to the report, the CJI had written to the prime minister about the judge’s impeachment.

On September 1, 2017,  a division bench led by Justice Shukla had passed an order defying the apex court’s order to stop admissions to the GCRG Memorial Trust’s medical college. Subsequently, an in-house panel was set up by the CJI to look into the issue. Following an adverse report from the panel, CJI recommended the judge’s impeachment, reports state.

Earlier, Justice Shukla’s bench, in an interim order, restrained the Medical Council of India from de-listing Prasad Education Trust’s medical college. The order is part of a first information report filed by the CBI alleging a criminal conspiracy.
