We’ve been missing the antics of Pakistani news reporters for a while now — our favourite being Amin Hafeez of Geo News who has in the past interviewed cattle in all sincerity. A reporter from City 41, kinda beat that, though, recently when he covered his own wedding. The immediate news peg seemed to have been the fact that the reporter instead of riding on a horse to his wedding took a sports car. And he even drove the car himself! The reporter in all his wedding finery with a microphone in hand informed the viewers that his was a ‘love marriage’. He then spoke to his wife and asked her how she was feeling. To which she replied something to the effect that she was very happy. But we’re sure she probably had a fleeting second thought about spending the rest of her life with a journalist who can’t think beyond news. Don’t we all.
The media must be free and fair, uninfluenced by corporate or state interests. That's why you, the public, need to pay to keep news free.
