The media must be free and fair, uninfluenced by corporate or state interests. That's why you, the public, need to pay to keep news free.

This mail is not in response to any specific Hafta, but I had two questions, on which I would love to get the panel’s opinion:

1. Recently, there was a news with far-reaching consequences on the right to privacy, which got absolutely no coverage in Indian media (I read it on Al Jazeera website). The Govt is planning to introduce facial recognition based paperless entry into airports from Feb 2019. Data from Aadhar database will be used for this. While it is an opt-in, but I guess the cameras will click pictures of every passenger and store it, whether one opts in or not. Details are very thin in the media so would love NL to do a report on this.

2. Since NL owes its origin to critiquing existing news media outlets, would love your opinion on WION. Have never heard anything from any of the panellists about it so far. I have come to love the channel, which is now the only tv news channel that I watch.

P.S. I have been a subscriber for nearly 3 years and love the work you guys are doing, though I share the same concerns as many others that post-Anand’s exit, the panel is too Left-heavy. Keep up the good work.

Cheers,
Ankur Poddar.
