While participating on a debate on Zee News Hindi, Samajwadi Party spokesperson Anurag Bhadoria and BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia came to blows, all on air. In a clip circulated later on Twitter, Bhadoria and Bhatia first got into a heated verbal exchange. Bhadoria then shoved Bhatia. A couple of others tried to restrain them as the two tried to push each other. Bhatia posted the clip on Twitter, claiming Bhadoria had started it and that he had lodged a complaint.
India Today reported that Bhatia had lodged a complaint at the Noida Sector 20 police station, quoting Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Pal Sharma as saying Bhadoria had been “detained”. When Samajwadi Party workers gathered at the police station, Bhadoria was taken to the Expressway Police Station.
Bhatia was formerly with the Samajwadi Party before quitting it to join the BJP.
According to Hindustan Times, Manoj Pant, the station house officer of Sector 20 police station, said, “Taking cognizance of the complaint, we have booked Bhadouria under Indian penal code sections 352 and 506 for assault and criminal intimidation.”
