It has been an absolute pleasure listening and reading articles from Newslaundry over the last 5 years. I am a student in Sydney, Australia, and over the last couple of months, I have decided to subscribe to your channel. The podcasts have been amazing. I just read through the entire investor-notification page; I am totally impressed with the information about expenses of your organisation like payroll out in the public domain, even though the salary for one individual was a little too much, but I should not crib about that. I would believe that the team has certain goals to achieve in 2019 and requires resources to achieve them. Is there a possibility that we as subscribers of your channel can have an estimate of the budgeted resources required and like a tracker which displays the funds achieved and how much is still left to achieve so that we can endorse this medium in our friend and family circles so help you sustain this business model? Moreover, if I could be of any help in reporting from Sydney, it would be great. Also, just to satisfy my curiosity does Newslaundry have a democratic-style office culture or is it a hierarchical?  I hope the election year, 2019, will bring a lot of surprises and fun to all Newslaundry content consumers.

Regards,
Malcolm Braganza

The first issue of the first black-owned and published newspaper, Freedom’s Journal, hangs on a prominent wall at the Newseum in Washington, DC. Its editors, Samuel Cornish and John Russwurm, put out a stirring declaration in their first issue on March 16, 1827:

Too long have others spoken for us. Too long has the publick been deceived by misrepresentations in things which concern us dearly…We wish to plead our own cause.”

This is in reference to the recent 10 per cent reservation episode of #NLHafta and various other past episodes where issues of Dalits were discussed.  One common thing which I observed was the lack of Dalit voices on your Hafta panel. I am not belittling you guys, I just want to point out the fact if you get few Dalit journalists in your discussion, they might have a perspective which you guys may miss.

Being a Dalit myself, I have often struggled to explain to my upper caste friends what it means to be a Dalit in India. It’s like explaining colours to a blind person—they don’t get it.

So my suggestion is you may try calling people like Sudipto Mondal, Christina Thomas Dhanraj, Divya Kandukuri and other Dalit journalists on Hafta just to get their viewpoint. I mean the representation of Dalit journalists in English media is already abysmally low. And I hope Newslaundry does not become one of them.

Sagar

Hi NL team,

Milord, I object !

I picked up 3 factual errors in last week’s Hafta…

1) The giggles about the Right-wing making a big deal of the mythological story of the replacement of Sri Ganesh being the proof of plastic surgery…But did you know that Sushruta’s (someone from the Vedic times) surgical work has been recognised by international journals? Kuch bhi!

2) HAL not being able to pay its employees…Now the question is who is lying…HAL’s balance sheet on various sites, including its own, shows a profit of Rs 2,000 crore…Does this mean they are not paying employees and having a profit of Rs 2000 cr? (Reference linkMATLAB KUCH BHI!!!

3) Rahul said Hardik has been with all of them cheerleaders…Ok, why I make this point – it’s not BCCI that appoints cheerleaders but individual teams. So Abhinandan, BCCI taking action by your account then is not justified. What say! But the irony is Rahul Johri is actually accused of sexual harassment and these two cricketers aren’t…One can argue that both the CEO and the cricketers look at woman as MEAT…as can be seen in this article.

In the words of the great Manisha Pande, one hand of the BCCI is doing the opposite of what the other hand is doing…Tunak Tunak Tun Tunak Tunak Tun Da Da Da

Manisha, Megnad, I was in tears after laughing hysterically; playing the Newsance video again and again. You guys can use this like Kapil Sharma’s babaji ka thuluAnyway, I was jobless after the Hafta and got into a Devdas-style, I object.

Anyway, waiting for the elections to see some fantastic coverage…Why not send an email for recommendations on what they think you should cover in the elections…You can put up a poll and other option for people to fill in if they don’t see what they want…

Best regards,
Dhiraj

Just a quick note to Hafta listeners and Mr Vivek Kaul (reference NL Hafta, 75th minute)

Dismissing ‘plastic surgery in India thousands of years back’ in the same breath as ‘vayu-yana’ by Mr Kaul was incorrect. The Sushruta Samhita is widely accepted as the oldest written description of complex plastic surgical principles and practice. It has been accepted as that by a variety of western medical institutions: an example. It has even been quoted (albeit very briefly) by the so-called historian Wendy Doniger, who is revered deeply by the lefties.

Bash Modi, bash his ministers and even his supporters, if you feel like. But blanket dismissal of factual historical advances, which is helping the patients all over the world, even in the present-day, is just a sign of ignorance.

Laal salaam!

Hi Team,
Happy New Year!!

Just saw your post on Twitter about the 30 per cent off on a 6-month subscription. While this should surely attract more subscribers, I think you should provide a discount to those who are already NL subscribers and are renewing their subscription. It should pay to be loyal and would help you retain the subscribers sitting on the fence. Or send them a freebie or something like that.

Keep doing the good work. Wish you luck.

Thanks,
Naman
