It’s the death anniversary of the father of the nation today. A day when extreme Hindutva freaks, because there are also mild ones, show us just how freaky they can get. In Agra, the Hindu Mahasabha’s Shakun Pandey shot at an effigy of Gandhi, there’s actually fake blood trickling after she’s done the deed. After recreating the assassination, Pandey also garlanded a statue of Godse. Of course, there was some sweet distribution.

Ms Pandey’s unhealthy love for Godse is neither new nor undocumented. The national secretary of the Hindu Mahasabha had stated earlier that she would have shot Gandhi herself had she been born before Godse. She’s also expressed her willingness to shoot Gandhi’s followers in present-day India. She’s supposed to be the first ‘lady judge’ of India’s first ‘Hindu court’. Guess she’s achieved her two-minute fame for the day. We say two-minute because it’s not like this will become primetime news and it’s not like angry anchors will call her seditious or anti-national. That sort of indignation is reserved for JNU students.
